The New Republic

The history of the Republic extends back many centuries, beginning with the formation of what is now referred to as the Old Republic. During these times the Republic flourished, and with the help of the Jedi Knights, peace governed the galaxy. However, less than a century ago, a very powerful and charismatic man began to influence the Senate of the Republic. Senator Palpatine began deviously organizing a new governmental arrangement, and most were blind to his evil ambitions, save a select few, amoung them young Senators Mon Mothma and Bail Organa. At the height of his power, the now self-proclaimed Emporer Palpatine launched the Clone Wars, destoryed most of the Jedi, and in the process took control of almost all Republic worlds, placing them under his Imperial rule. Thus the Old Republic collapsed, being replaced by the evil Empire. However, resistance, at first very small, did exist, led by Bail Organa and Mon Mothma.

As the rule of the Emperor and his henchman, Darth Vader, became tighter, the resistance grew. Soon the leaders had arranged an official Alliance between several key planets who, although afraid to express outright support, did supply much needed funds and personnel. Years passed, and the Alliance grew larger until the Emperor finally took notice. He proceeded to construct the most powerful weapon ever seen, The Deathstar, which he used to destory the planet of Alderaan, killing Bail Organa. But with the heroic help of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and the re-emerged Jedi Knight Obi Wan Kenobi, the Death Star was destroyed and Organa's daughter, Princess Leia, was rescued. This outrage forced the Emperor to concentrate on destroying the Rebellion, and all the while the Rebellion grew. Construction began on a new Death Star, and the Alliance launched an all out assault on this weapon, led by the new Jedi Knight, Skywalker and Alliance Generals Solo and Lando Calrissian. The attack was successful, and the Emperor was destroyed, as was Darth Vader. With the death of the Emperor, the Empire crumbled, and led by Mon Mothma, the Republic was restored. Thus began the era of the New Republic, although the formation of the new government has been difficult.

    Built upon the constitution of all races and creeds free and accepted, the New Republic strives to embrace all beings into its fold. The entire organization is founded upon the "radical" thinking of aliens and alien-lovers. Strife does exist, however, between races. Time and common allegiance do not necessarily erase generations of inter-racial conflict.

    There is little discrimination, however, as the NR makes it active policy to open positions to beings of all types. Some, however, show a natural affinity towards a certain kind of labor or responsibility, and it isn't shocking to find a great majority of a certain alien race occupying a strand of task in the NR.

    Popular races include Mon Calamari, Wookiee, Sullustan, Ithorian, Quarren, and Verpine.

    Be prepared for alot of politics. Everything is discussed and deliberated, trying to appease everyone that could be possibly involved before action is taken. There are great opportunities for advancement on a quick pace, however, as your talents are easily utilized on a demanding basis.
