Policies of Play

These are the policies found in the NEWS GENERAL file on the MUSH. While other policies are listed in the NEWS POLICIES files, these are the ones most people have questions about. These are part of the required reading marked with a * in the news files. New players should be familiar with this before taking the newbie quiz.

You Are Being Watched... While it is not the policy of the Star Wars MUSH Administration to snoop or advocate snooping on players (by the Admin or by other players), people should _never_ assume they are private, and should act under the general assumption that privacy is NOT guaranteed. The Internet is not a medium where such a thing CAN be guaranteed, and we can make no claims otherwise for that simple fact.

Harrassment will NOT be tolerated here. - This is not something any of us find even remotely amusing. Sending unwelcome OOC messages after you have been asked to stop constitutes harrassment, and will be dealt with severely. Needless to say, obscene and sexually explicit harrassment may also result in notification of outside authorities.

Spam-free Diet Please! No Excessive spamming. - Don't "spam" other players (force output to them designed to scroll their screen repeatedly). This is in bad form, wastes network bandwidth, and really isn't funny. Spamming to annoy is a @bootable offense. Code designed to spam others is not permitted, and will be removed immediately without prior notification should it be discovered.

NO YELLING! - Don't spoof (fake) shouts or create @pemit-all objects (announcers). This includes anything that may spam connected players or simulate a 'shout' or a 'wall' for one who is not a member of the wizard staff. We have channel for general announcements. Announcer objects or code that unnecessarily spams the WHO will be @nuked without prior notification, no matter what else is on the object in question. The same goes for other objects with commands designed purely to annoy, or to spoof game messages.

Squash the bugs! - Report any bugs with MUSH systems you may come across. Players exploiting any bugs without immediately reporting them will be removed from the game. The 'I was testing the bug for you' excuse is not acceptable. We appreciate all player's cooperation in this manner. Use the code found in +help codetrouble for reporting bugs.

I am l337 Coder - Coding on the MUSH is fine. However, there are some things you should not code. Do NOT code your own Weaponry or Comlinks. The MUSH Admin have already built weapons, armor and comlinks that are approved and work with the MUSH +combat systems. Only the Admin-coded versions are allowed for use. Also, NO Lightsabers. Do NOT make 'cameras' that capture people's descriptions. These take up a lot of Database space for a trivial OOC use. Dark Security Cameras which snoop on roleplay in public areas are also forbidden and will be destroyed on sight when found.

A MACRO is a command which abbreviates something long into something short to minimize keystrokes. Simple macroes which can shorten a single phrase like '+background Luke 10' into 'bg luke 10' are allowed. However, TRADING or SPACE macroes designed to combine multiple commands into one keystroke are prohibited.

Scripts are programs that allow a player to function without actually being at the keyboard. These are ILLEGAL, and should not be used in order to keep a player connected beyond the normal idle disconnect time, nor in conjunction with space or trading. Players caught using scripts in these manners may be @booted or sent to +jail to prohibit continued use until the player returns to the keyboard to discuss the problem with an admin.

Pinnochio! - Players are allowed to create and use puppets as long as the puppet is a SUPPORTING PLOT DEVICE alone and not as a secondary character. Puppets shouldn't be left lying around public areas while the owner isn't online. Puppets reported to have been abandoned in public areas will be @tel'd into the owner's inventory. Puppets shouldn't be used in combat or used to gather information covertly (ie spying) without consent from all participants in that RP or a Judge.

Builder Characters - Builder Characters are meant for building purposes ONLY. They are not to be used for roleplay and should NOT be left logged on when building is not being actively persued. Builder Characters are granted the NO_PAY power and are !FIXED so they can @tel between their own rooms to fix things. If this !FIXED status is abused, the builder will be set FIXED. BC's are not to be used for flying ships without prior admin permission.

This MUSH is rated PG. - This MUSH is rated PG (just like the movies). No uncalled for language or actions in public places, which includes MUSH-sponsored public and/or Faction channels. If it causes someone to complain, take it somewhere private or keep it to yourself. If you find that this policy infringes on your need to be obnoxious... good. :)

No Loitering or Solicitation - Stay off the channels of other factions or businesses. A good rule of thumb is.. if you weren't invited there, and it isn't listed as a public channel in the NEWS CHANNELS file, you shouldn't be on it.

OOC AREA - The OOC area was not designed to facilitate IC actions. Outside of the official Roleplay Stages, no roleplay should occur while OOC.

ZIS Items (weapons, money) should not be exchanged in OOC areas. The VOS code is designed to prohibit people from transferring objects while OOC. Do not drop or transfer items in the OOC area, or they will get stuck in the room and an administrator will have to help to get them back to you.

Attempting to carry a player from the OOC area to an IC one is strictly prohibited. Code is in place to deny success to any such attempts and to make a record of the attempt for the administration's review. If a player needs to be somewhere they aren't ICly, use the IC space system IC or contact an administrator with the valid reasons for why a @tel is needed.

Idle Purges - After 90 days of inactivity, players who have not logged in will be purged from the database. While players are welcome to recreate characters who have idled out, they will not receive any of the money, ZIS objects, or other possessions they have lost. If you know you will be gone longer than 90 days, @set yourself on-vacation _and_ post an expected date of return in your @away or ¬e. If _both_ of these are not done, or you do not return in a timely fashion, your character may be purged anyway. Setting yourself safe is not sufficient.
